Default Engine misfires only at high rpms!!

Hey everyone,

I just have a new problem on my pretty old 2008 b7

2008 a4 quattro 2.0 with 270k km(170 miles), manual

At first i thought it was the spark plugs so i replaced them all, the problem is still present

Didnt change anything else for the last 20 000km, before that was the last owner

The problem started randomly 2 weeks ago, and its still here: the car runs as usual at low rpms, but as soon as i hit high rpms and the car is under load(not when i press the gas pedal when on neutral) the car starts misfiring and jerking, and i can hear loud explosions under me, so i think it backfires too.

i bought an obd2 from innovatech and i got the codes
p0300 random misfiring
and p0301: cylinder 1 and 3 misfiring.

i erased the codes switched coil packs 2 and 4 with 1 and 3 but the misfire seems to be random, as i got cylinder 1,2,4 misfire and cylinder 2,3,4 misfire when i cleared the codes twice again.

sometimes after the check engine flashes and doesnt disappear, it stays and the car starts idling rough until i turn off the engine and back on

im kinda new to mechanics so i dont know anything, all the knowledge i have is by watching my father work on his cars and watching youtube videos so dont be too harsh on me

also, since i bought the car its been consuming a lot of oil and the exhaust gets black from burned oil(i guess).

since i saw oil on the coils when changing the spark plugs i guess maybe the problem comes from the valve cover gaskets

thanks for your help ~zak

could be a multiple of things. 1st I would scan with vcds and see what the actual codes are. also check the valve cover itself for iternal cracks that would allow pcv not to function properly and allow oil burn. The oil in the coils are from a bad vc gasket. very simple fix. you have to remove the vc to check it anyway. so at that point you can also change the vc gasket

okay thanks, ill try to find the vcds cable in a nearby store. i'm going to change the valve cover gasket this week end but i know the problem isn't from there since sometimes the car misfires but there's no oil on the coils.
I'll check the valve cover for internal cracks.

is there something else that could be causing the problem?
