Default Engine mounts

Good day guys please can you assist me. Unfortunately due to this wonderful time we are living in funds are tight an i need a solution to my issue with regards to the engine mounts specifically the one with a sensor. My question is how crucial is it to the functionality of the engine to have this engine mount fitted i have been told that it doesnt affect the motor but creates an error on the computer so would it be possible to just replace the engine mount with senor with a normal one that doesn't have as it is alot cheaper this would be temporary until i can afford to get the correct one a little later as i dont want to cause any major damages to the engine for now.

Wayne,
I have no direct experience with this but I have been studying the same situation as I may need to replace the engine mounts on my B7 a4 quattro too (2006, 2.0T 190k miles.).
Quick answer: No. The left side mount (active mount) can be replaced with a non-electric mount. ECS Tuning (and others) sell a plug in resistor ($18) that eliminates the error light.
That said....one poster on the Audizine site noted that simply breaking off the electrical head from the old motor mount and plugging it into the harness would serve the same purpose. Clever. Either way, the answer is no you do not have to use an active mount. Does it make a difference using a standard non-active mount? From my reading the answer seems to be ...not much. I'm gonna disconnect the lead from my left side mount and drive around to test. You may want to try it yourself. I doubt it makes much difference. And no, you can't hurt anything by doing so. Best of luck, Haya...
