Default ESP light stays on, no throttle response

What could possibly be going on here? Pulling out of a parking lot, and suddenly the ESP comes on, and the RPM is fixed at 1000, and the car cannot go faster than 5 mph. Lucky I was not on the highway, as I pulled over, shut off, and when I started again, normal driving. What could have caused this? What happened? Will this happen randomly again? (2007 A4, 25,000 trouble free miles so far)

Advice?

Thanks,

Jeff

That doesn't sound good. I'd get it into the dealership asap so they can check for codes.

Tip or 6MT? If Tip, i'd bet the brake switch is in the early stages of failure.

Default 2nd. May be the brake light switch. Do you have a VAG-COM or access to one?

Need to look up the code to be sure what exactly the issue is.

The dealer said no faults showed up on the analyzer, and that it was a "computer glitch". I am concerned it will happen again at highway speeds. Has anyone ever heard of the engine power shutting down at highway speeds?

Default Had a similar experience, once

I didn't notice the ESP light, but I can't say for sure it wasn't on.

I was at only about 2,500 miles. Took it to the dealer & they reflashed the ECU with firmware that supposedly fixed the problem.
