Default Extended Warranty

I own a 2006, A4, 49000 miles on it. At Ira Audi the business department gave the following quote for a extended warranty plan. Has any one had experience lately with purchasing extended warranty that can give me some advice.

Audi Pure Protection - Platinum
5/60k with a $100 deductible = $5000

How is coverage on the warranty? does it have any hidden items and/or concerns? how is the price quote? any alternatives?

Default HOLLY CRAP! $5000! That sounds insanely high to me. Our B5 S4 was Audi Assured for $1250 in 2004...

... with 33k miles on it.

I realize there is some inflation to add in there, but $5000 sounds like robbery.

Anyone else more recent experience with buying extended warranties?

As far as coverage, it was fair and good from our experience with Audi. We used it for a minor leak in the tranny, coolant hose, dash instrument cluster and a bad wiper motor. We had $50 deductible. Seemed worth it to me at the price we paid, but no way I would be paying $5k for this coverage unless they were providing oral pleasures while you waited.

Default I called around today and was quoted $1674

by Audi of Stratham, NH. I'm still shopping for a car, but used a 2005.5 B7 with 47,000 miles as my example. He Didn't tell me the name of the plan, but said that it was the same coverage as an Audi Certified car and would extend to 6 years or 100,000 miles from the original in-service date of the car. He originally quoted me $1774, but I told him that I was shopping and he dropped $100. That plan carried a $50 deductible. Does the $5,000 plan include ALL of your maintenance, TB etc?

Default Ouch.

Put that $5k in the bank and save it for repairs.

A year ago I was quoted $3652 for a 5/50k Premium Care with zero deductable. I had 28k on the car at the time. I bet the high price is due to your mileage...

Default So with the oral clause written into the contract, you would cough up $5K?

I'm still thinking that's a bit high.

Default I would ask a few more dealers to get comparative quotes.

Historically, Audi's extended warranties have been the best. 3rd party warranties have either closed up business, or have started denying claims based on clauses written into their contracts. I haven't read about any company with which people have had a good and consistent experience with.

Default For $5K/head (pardon the pun), I should start a business.

Let's see, keep 10 women and 2 men (gotta cover the bases) on payroll, pay them $100 per "warranty claim"...

I think I still have enough margin even if the Audi goes in for service every other month. Course my only issue is...if the customers got hooked on the perks and started making bogus warranty claims....

Default Just looked into them as well

Been looking into one as well in the Chicagoland burbs. I have a 2006 with 32,500 miles on it and the dealer quoted me $3,000 for the Platinum Program (4yr, 48000 extension from extended contract date).

Also got a quote from Warranty Direct and for essentially the same coverage & period it was $2800.

In the end I am going to take the dealer advice (suprise, suprise) and hold off another year until the factory warranty is close to expiring. He said the price will most likely go up a little bit but I won't be paying for a year of duplicate coverage.

Keep in mind that dealers mark up the warranty costs, so there is a lot of room to negotiate.
