Default Green LED on rear view mirror.

I noticed the LED For the first time after owning the car for 2.5 months. After consulting the manual, it turns out that the green light indicates that the auto-dimming feature on the mirror is enabled. Pressing the button next to the mirror disables it.

Apparently you can also calibrate the digital compass in the car.

In case you were wondering what that green LED does.

Could you be more specific where the green light glows and how does the auto-dimming feature for the mirrors work or get enabled?

Turn it off and on at night and you will see.

Default Re: Mine makes no discernable difference

I've been wondering if my auto-dim mirror is not working. When I turn it on and off, or cover the eye with my finger at night, it makes no difference. The green light works though. Is it malfunctioning?

Default I notice a huge difference.

It's almost too dim. I usually turn it off...many times over the years I have avoided a ticket by catching a slight red or blue reflection off of a police car "bubble lights" behind me -- that is impossible with the dimming on.

In fact with the dimming on pretty much all you can tell is that there are headlights on behind you. Too dim, IMO.

Default You may not have it

Given that it seems you are in Finland. It's not a standard feature, even not in the US, and definitely not in Europe. When I was ordering an A6 for my dad in Switzerland, it was a very separate, very pricy option.

Default I look for the *shape* of lights

Still works with cops, at least for me. It's pretty easy to identify US cars by their headlights. Takes just some training =)

It's the one feature I would absolutely not want to miss, esp. for the outside mirrors. You can manually dim the non-auto inside mirror, but you are stuck with the non-dimming outside mirrors.
