Had to add a quart of oil @ 4500 miles. Normal?

correct me if im wrong but...
i used to work at an oil change shop(jiffy lube) and for some reason we used to do alot of v-dubs and mercedez and we had a couple audis there too, we used to have sludge issues and people coming back to us saying we put conventional oil into their and thats why their motor sludged up. i had to deal with the claims and i had one a4 1.8t that drove his car 7500 miles before coming back..he used to rip his car all day, pin tires left and right, some lady who went 12000 miles on snthetic oil aswell, the oil filter was as soft as paper in water..i can keep on going but the point i am trying to get to is, vw has a sludge problem, do you think its safe running these cars for 10k miles before changing the oil? after seeing claims like the ones ive been through i change the oil every 3k miles with synthetic(dont have a choice on oil)..i have b7 a4 2.0t fwd..

Lexus has the same issues (My RX has a special 100K warranty becuase of this)
but 3K is ideal for oil change - 5K is probably OK for synthetic (which anyone with a turbo should be using)
10K is OK if your IQ is below 30.
