Headlight Question

I have a 2006 A4 S-line 2.0T with the bi-xenon headlights. My front drivers side headlight has been flickering on and off randomly for the past few weeks. The dealership says it could be the bulb or the ignitor but they can't determine which. Before I take a 50/50 guess and what to replace, I noticed I do not have that problem with the high-beam.

Do the low-beam and high-beam bulbs work off the same ignitor and if so, is it a safe assumption to try replacing the low-beam xenon bulb?

I actually thought that low/high were the same bulb, it was just a matter of a flap opening

to expose more light. That's not the case?

Ditto.

The two inside bulbs in the xenon housing are just daytime running lights (halogens). There is only one xenon bulb per side and one ballast per side.

Past posts seem to point to defective ballasts.

This is a common issue and I believe there is a TSB on it (more)

You should be able to get it replaced under warranty. Also, with the bi-xenons there is only one bulb. When you switch from hi to low there is flap (lens) that moves to allow more light to escape the projector.
