Default How long should my first set of tires last?

I've gotten 14300 miles from my front tires and they are gone...yes, I drive fast, yes I turn fast, but I don't accelerate off the line and I always warm them up a bit before going fast. Shouldn't they have last longer?

Jon.

Did you rotate them? And which tires were they? Treadwear rating affects mileage.

Default Which tires did your car come with?

The Dunlop SportMaxx's on ours have the same mileage as yours and still look fairly new.

Default Couple of possibilities.........

On FWD cars, the front tires will wear faster than the rears because you're asking two tires to do ALL the work.

Routinely driving aggressively will make them wear exponentially faster.

Straight line speed or straightline fast acceleration aren't an issue as much as hard cornering and braking.

Proper (and frequent) tire rotation is an absolute must if you want to have any reasonable tread life.

High performance tires will wear faster than A/S, but if you only got 14,300 out of your front tires, you've abused them, regardless of the type.

Default Pay to play

You're doing all the things that make them wear fast, and they did.

The good news is that we have some choices of good tires that are relatively cheap (Kumho, Hankook, etc.)

Default Audi leasees need to switch out their stock tires 50% into term

If you lease then you've heard the horror stories of unsuspecting lease-end charges for tires you'll never drive on...so my Audi salesman told me the quattro is "hell on tires, which makes it logical to switch out the factory tires half way through the lease...and the tires you just cited RichAA were mentioned!

Default A very broad rule of thumb is...

Multiply the tread wear rating by 100 and, if you rotate them and keep them properly inflated, drive "normally", you will get about that out of them.

Example: treadwear 300x100 = 30,000 miles.

Now, this is a very broad and not very accurate statement, but it will get you in the ballpark.

If you went through tires at 14K you either dont drive correctly, yes I said it, or you dont have the correct PSI in the tire. Most if not all drivers not drive toward the apex of a turn since most have no idea and those that do still dont. With out hitting the apex and driving fast you will burn through tires fast. IF you use the conti's they are not made for ferrari type driving they are made to go from point a to point b and last and be reliable. Rotation of the tires is needed every 3k if you drive hard and correct psi needs to be checked monthly if you like to drive hard. I have 26K and I rotate regularly and finally 2 tires are about 30-40% gone and thats at 26K not 14K

Default Apex turning explanation...please!

The Conti's are my stock tires and my Audi salesman said they wear poorly...thus my previous comments in this thread. However PhatAudi2T06 might have some good advice -- if I can understand what this apex turning is. I'm not a gear head/racer dude so explain it to me so a noob can understand it. You'd be saving me (and others, too) the $$$ for a new set of replacement tires.

Default ContiProContacts...

I did corner very hard on them...I have been turning more like a `normal' person as of late, either way I just ordered a new front pair of Kumho Ecsta ASX's, hopefully they will be better than the Continentals.
