Just took delivery of a 2006 2.0T Quattro, impression inside
I'm coming from a 2001.5 A4 1.8T Quattro with sport package, 17", and a few other goodies.
Packages on 2006 are Sunroof(leather), premium (includes 17" wheels), and sport suspension.
Shifter: Much improved and much shorter throws, this was my biggest complaint in the old car.
Engine: Much less lag, engine was stock before, power comes on much more smoothly. Anyone complaining about turbo lag in this car should definately try out a 1.8T
Ride/Handling: Less body roll and a more compliant ride. Old vehicle was a tad stiff.
A note on the 2006 warranty, I can confirm wear items have been removed from the previous 4 year 50,000 mile coverage. My dealer is having everyone taking delivery of a 2006MY sign a notice noting that items like wipers, brake pads, rotors, etc are only cover for 12 months/12,000 miles.

Wiper blades were never covered by the New Vehicle Warranty
They were/are covered by the Audi Advantage Mantenance Protection Plan which, as you mention, has always been shorter than the New Vechicle Warranty.
This isn't new, just the duration has changed from what it has been in the past. Check out my post from 2000 about this subject...

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/274338.phtml

Response to Impression: (short)
Compared to the 1.8t Tip - In software terms, the 2.0t is a 2+ version upgrade. It was like going from Audi 1.0 to Audi 3.0 Professional Edition
Totally love the car @16+k
Highway on ramps have a "newness" that just wasn't there with 1.8t

They were on my 2003 A6
Never had to pay for a set of blades for the entire three year lease. When I bought my 2006 A4, the salesman noted that the wiper blades would no longer be covered as a warranty item after the first year or first replacement.

Nope they weren't.
The new car warranty doesn't cover wiper blades, the Audi Advantage Mantenance Protection Plan does, and in it's latest version, they are covered one time within 12 months/12,000 miles.
The point is that people keep thinking the new car warranty has changed, but it's really the Audi Advantage Mantenance Protection Plan that is changing. The new car warranty stays the same.
Your car has multiple warranties/protection plans built into it. They each cover different components.
Just trying to help clear up some of the confusion people are spreading.

Having come from an 02 1.8 with sport suspension, my feeling after 5000 miles is that the 2.0t with sport suspension doesn't handle as well - more plowing and body roll than my 02 had. also think the move to servotronic steering was a mistake.

I'm sure you're right, but...
...to me, as an owner, I did not have to pay for these items before, and I do now. Regardless of how it's categorized by Audi, I still lose out on maintenance coverage. IMHO, it's a big step back for Audi in the PR area.

I see the opposite........
I just came off a week with a loaner 1.8t w/ sport suspension and in my opinion the b7 is hands down better in all areas/ The steering in the b6 felt like i didnt have power steering.
