Default PSA: So who thought Audi's coil problems were over?

Working on a B7 2.0TFSI right now....came in as a no start and the customer stated that there was smoke underneath the hood. Want to see why?

This coil shorted out internally and started to melt before the Ignition Coil Circuit Breaker (actually a 20A ATO fuse) popped. For reference its located in the ECM box. New coil and new circuit breaker and its running again.

Default At least the frequency is much lower

Now reading this, I wonder how much longer would it needed to take before something worse happened before the fuse popped.

Default Oh, and as I was setting the Readiness code, the #4 coil started misfiring too

Just replaced that one and all is well.....for now? We'll see I guess....

Yes, still an issue on the 2.0T; but not even 1/2 as common

And just when I thought they'd replaced the defective part with one that never ever fails...

Default I had one go in less than 48 hrs of ownership

Less than 2 days and 100 miles it went out.

Then the service department didn't put anything down when they pryed it up/out and swapped it with another cylinder... I now have nice gouge marks and scratches right next to 2 of the coils.

I called and b&tched them out royally and they have a new cover there that they are going to put on at the first oil change.

Idiots.

Default I just had this happen on mine, 380miles. They said an ignition coil shorted and melted...

the connector. They are replacing all four coil because they saw corrosion on the other three! What is going on here? I am wondering if I am going to have the same problem happen again. What's to prevent corrosion again?
