Question for electrical gurus
My wife has an '06 A4. Great car but she has one problem. About five months ago her driver's side headlight bulb blew. Since the car is six years old, it was no big deal and I replaced the bulb. The problem is that the replacement bulbs are lasting no longer than six weeks. The third replacement bulb blew this evening. She always checks to make certain that she has both headlights functionig before she drives off, so it's not blowing as soon as the headlights are turned on. I don't know if it's relevant, but she also told me that the dashboard icon that indicates that a headlight is not functioning does not illuminate after she loses her headlight. Any suggestions?

Have you tried cleaning the bulb surface with alcohol to remove any traces of oil before replacing. Any oil on the bulb surface will reduce the lifetime as it creates hotspots. Also how about swapping bulbs from side to side to see if the problem reoccurs.
