why can't we get these seats?

Simple answer - was never certified for use due to crash/safety testing
Canada doesn't get them either 
So if you're displeased with this, call up AOA and voice a complaint. I have heard that they got a lot of complaints regarding to the lack of sport seats in the A4 while everything else Audi sells here do have sport seats. go figure, they missed the boat on this big time.

Please dont' get me started on this one again...please...
I have already discussed it with the product manager for the A4 at AoA. According to them..it has to do with side air bags..and US requirements...ok..thats ok...then give us an option for the B7 S4 seats...and we will pay extra for it. No go..probably because it is a major diffentiator between the A4 and S4 product lines.

They offer a lot of things in Europe we can't get here...
But you have to consider that Audi almost pulled out of North America in the 80s and has been on an upward swing since the mid 90s. They are still getting their act together as far as options and packages that we're offered.
It seems like with each new model revision they are getting better at offering more selection.
We'll never get the choice of engines they have in Europe, but it seems like some of the larger limitations come down to governmental regulations rather than what AoA wants.
