Will the turbo glow red without load?

no, it has to have a load
your turbo won't spool unless in gear, in audis at least
the wastegate is open when in neutral
so no, it wont glow
but go drive around hard for a few minutes, flooring it a few times, then stop, leave the car on and go look at the turbo, it will still be glowing
