2011 2.0t, puzzling problem
So a little background on the car. Has been consuming oil as these are known to do. Ran a bg per kit through with most recent oil change. Awaiting results to see if it worked. The car has also been puffing out black smoke under heavy load as if passing someone. The smoke is unburned fuel. Started thinking it was a rich condition so first thing I checked was fuel pressure. Pressure was OK. Next I thought it might be the primary o2. Disconnected it and drove. Problem still occurs. Smoke tested intake to check for vacuum leaks and none were found. Manifold vacuum was OK. Checked vacuum at dipstick and it was OK. With vagcom I went in and read my fuel trim long term and short term. Fuel trim shows engine to be running lean. Thinking it may be the crank seals I smoked the dipstick tube and the seals are OK. Pulled plug they show signs of oil and a lean condition. Watched charge air pressure while driving and it seems to be about 200hpa lower than the specified pressure the computer is asking for. Checked turbo for signs of oil and no oil was present. Could a small boost leak cause this to happen without setting dtc's? Possibly excessive carbon build up on valves? Exhaust back pressure? Egr? I've heard theses engine may smoke a little due to turbo having to catch out with the throttle input but it shouldn't be running lean at idle. No driveability problems other than the smoking. At idle it backfires from the exhaust if you snap it while in neutral or park. Any ideas?
