Default 2013 A4 gas filler door problem: able to open even when the doors are locked

Hi everyone,

I was at the gas station (Oregon) and my car was at a complete stop but the engine was still on and the doors were locked (shown by the master lock red light); however, the gas station worker was still able to press open the gas filler door. Was this normal? Because I thought when the doors were locked, the gas filler door could not be opened.

Thank you very much!!

From the owner's manual ("Filling the tank"):

"The tank flap is not locked when you lock the vehicle from the
inside."

Shocking! This means while cruising to Vegas a lowlife could pull along side and siphon my gas?

Imagine that, another mystery solved by actually reading the manual.

Mebbe but it does allow for in-flight refueling.

If the gas filler door does not lock with the doors, the locking motor is broken. This is a known problem with B8's.
It is also possible that the gas filler door does not open with the doors. In that case there is a red string in the trunk for "emergency open" of the gas filler door.
The motor itself is very cheap and the replacement of it is quite easy to DIY.

Instructions to replace to motor:
