My late 2013 A4 tracks straight and had nice stiff steering resistance at speeds. After the software update it still tracks true but the steering is too light IMO (compared to hydraulic E90 335i).

Take it back to Audi & complain, the more people that do might make them aware they still need to do some more work on the software?

So my car is still at the dealership, still driving that Allroad. The Allroad's steering is so much better than mine, goes straight, no "snaking", no dead spot on center, no stickiness, night and day although I can feel a hint of the same steering issue.

There is a little fight going on now between the dealership and Audi on how to proceed, they make them do all kinds of things, even playing around with not only alignment but also with tire pressures... Let's see how this will turn out.

Picked my car up this afternoon. Steering rack and some other parts have been changed, what a difference!

Tracks straight, no left/right, no more over correcting, much, much better! There is still a hint of the issue but that is how it is, just like all others.

That's great news, any chance you could find out what the "other parts" they changed were?

Mine's in next Friday for the start of my saga

Update:-
Audi checked my wheel alignment today, nothing wrong so my issue has been sent to some Audi tech dept now. At least my dealer agrees the steering dont feel right.

Default Update

Hi All,

So I had the 48k4 software update a few months ago when the car had about 3k miles. Fixed the "notchiness" problem for the most part. Then the notchiness returned very slightly at about 9k miles and additionally the car needed a lot of minor corrections at speed. It progressively got worse over time (but was also intermittent in that sometimes I did not feel it at all).

I took it for service yesterday (11k miles). The report back stated...

"Verified customer concern of a notch at highway speeds, I called tac# 1229224, I was instructed to inspect the tires to make sure they are the same, they are all the same and in good condition, I inspected the steering shaft for binding, the steering shaft is good. Tac advised me to use specific new rear camber and toe adjustments, I adjusted the rear camber and toe to Tac specs. I adjusted the front to vehicle specs, I set all tire pressure, the vehicle was road tested good with shop foreman after repairs."

Unfortunately, when I got back on the highway I could again feel the notch in the steering. It was improved and the car no longer required the minor corrections at speed but the notch was clearly still there when the wheel is turned from 12 o'clock slightly left or right.

Any other ideas?

Mines been back in for the update to be done "again". This is what Audi HQ suggested after the wheel alignment checks proved nothing wrong.

The tech that "flashed" car, claimed it feels ok now.

I'm now in the process of evaluating it. It does feel different, so I can only assume this update has a variant now?

I need some "proper" milage on it, before I say yeah or neigh.

It's better since the re-flash but this inability to go in a straight line is still present.

The real high speed stuff is OK, but between 50mph & 80mph it is still annoying, it's either going left very slightly or right very slighty so you end up spending a whole journey making very minor corrections from left to right to left to right etc. etc.

It's a bit better across all speeds and much better at very high speed, "that was scary before".

This improvement was obtained with Software only, so I'm sure the problem "could" be fixed? but only if Audi can be bothered too tweak the code some more, I hope they do because I am getting fed up driving this car on motorways now.

I do still have to report back my findings to the dealer in the week, but I'm not expecting much.
