AMI cables and portable ext drives
Anyone have any experiences or compatability issues to share concerning AMI cables and ext portable drives?
I just got a "mini usb b" cable but ami interface gives error about cable or device not compatable.
P+ w/Audi Symphony not B/O FWIW
Thanks in advance

what type of external drive are you using? Hard drive based? It's possible the ami usb interface doesn't provide enough power for an external hard drive. I've had no issues with thumbdrives or SD card readers.

I tried a 500gb Seagate Free Agent Go series but no others. It does meet power requirements (ie no bricks). It gets power but only returns the error.
according to the above chart (thanks Ben) only the blue "K" cable works with AMI w/o navi which is what I have. Service manager also said only the blue grommet was compatible.
I haven't tried a flash reader to a usb "a" but it seems moot now. I'll check with the dealer when I return this one.
Correct, it must be Fat32 format (not NTFS or exFat)
Bummer, looks like the only option now is the forbidden fruit

The mini usb "B" type cable is only intended for the A5.

I was able to get a usb "A" cable that is compatable with the A4 and allows card readers and such to be used.
