BlackStone Oil Analysis
I went 5500 miles on my last 5-40 Amsoil fill with much of that mileage done in town. The summary:
"Wear looks great in the first sample from your Audi. It looks like the engine has already matured past break-in (16,000 miles), as all wear reads well within the normal range and in the proper balance. Our universal averages show typical wear from the 2.0L turbo after about 5,100 miles. This oil was run a little longer than that, which makes the low wear that much more impressive. Silicon is somewhat high and this could be residual sealers that have yet to wash out. Or you might want to check the air filter, just in case it's dirt. All else is good in your Audi. Try 7,500 miles next time."
I'll have a check run after the next change. Looks like no more 5k oil changes for me.
PS: And you'll note that this engine is APR'd

So did you change your oil when you took delivery, or are you saying that you did 5.5K after the first change @ 5K (10.5K total).

This is my fourth A4 and on three of them, including my current car, I've had the oil changed at the 1k mark, then at 5k and every 5k thereafter. My Avant had 15.5k miles on it at the last change. My feelings were that it is better to change the oil too often, rather than not. After all, the manual indicates that the oil will need to be changed more frequently if one drives short distances, in extremely hot or cold weather, or in dusty environments, all of which I do. Unfortunately Audi doesn't attach any mileage numbers to "more frequently". And some of us here remember the dreaded oil sludge issues with the 1.8 liter engine...
But now, for $22.50 plus shipping I know I'm good for at least 7.5k. And hoping to push that to 10k
My current A4 burns around two thirds of a quart of oil between changes. My previous three have never used oil between changes.
Hopefully this info will be useful to other 2.0t drivers...
