engine light

hello guys again.well while i was driving in this 15 degree weather my engine light came on. i thought it had something to do with the coolant i just change or something with leaks since i been in an accident a couple months ago but i didnt see any leaks.anyways i took it to the dealer and after 3 hrs waiting they told me it was the catalytic converter and they told me they order the parts for my car and it would take around 5 days. my question is if its fine to drive around until the part arrive or should i not drive the car at all for it may cause some more damage to the car?

I don't think you will have a problem running your car for another week. The code thrown was probably bc the exhaust gasses were more toxic than they are spec'd to be meaning the CAT was not doing its job cleaning them up. The only way I could see it hurting you is if it is clogged and creates back pressure further up the system. Have you felt a loss in power or anything that would make you think it is clogged? I would think the dealership would've told you not to drive it if they thought it would harm your car more.

Unless the engine light is flashing, you should have no problem if nothing else is obviously wrong. If it starts to flash, do NOT drive the car. Stop and have the dealer pick it up.

Did the dealer happen to tell you what the code was? Or give you the number? If so post it up or ask them and post it.
