As long as it meets the specs in your manual.

No, wrong oil.

What country are you writing from? Do you know what engine is in the car?

If in the USA, you'd focus on an oil that meets VAG spec 502.00. Many choices available.

Only if you want to keep refilling it up. To thin and you will burn it quickly. Either 0W-40 or 5W-40

This is in your owner's manual. For a US 2009 A4 2.0T (ie, mine), that means the preferential viscosity is 5W-40, but 5W-30 and 0W-40 are also acceptable. But only those three. And the hard requirement is VW 502 00 compliance. Which in the US, for a Castrol selection, means only this one:

Your profile country code is NG, which is Nigeria. I have no idea what a 2.0T sold in that country might be designed to expect regarding oil viscosity. You should check your owner's manual or contact your local Audi organization to find out.

Read the information on the bottle. It needs to meet VAG spec 502.00

I wouldn't assume that 504/507 implies 502 compliance. There seems to be some reason for the differentiation, otherwise there wouldn't be 502, 505, 505 01, 504/507, and 508/509. Looking over the Audi USA doc (https://www.audiusa.com/content/dam/...e_9-7-2017.pdf), we see the US 2.0T models use the 502 oil, the 2.5L 5cyl models use the 504/507 "long life 3", and the new S models using the 3.0 turbo engine that replaced the 3.0 supercharged (S4, S5, SQ5) are using 508/509 "long life 4" oil (and a lightweight viscosity at that). It appears there is a 502 Castrol Edge Professional OE oil (https://www.shopdap.com/vw-audi-oem-...strol-oil.html), and I would use that over a 504 oil unless I had confirmation from Audi that a 504 can be used in place of a 502 (I assume the 504 and 508 are simply more refined and therefore more expensive, but your local market might be otherwise). I have no idea what a B-cycle engine is or how you would know you have one vs. a normal 2.0T engine.

If it's the viscosity your manual says to use and it has VW 502 stamped on it, then you're fine.

An interesting read at https://www.oilspecifications.org/volkswagen.php and https://www.oilspecifications.org/ar..._explained.php

It certainly seems like 504 is an across the board improvement over 502. It's hard for me to determine if 504 was designed to be a better oil, or an oil that lasted longer. Ie, is the Castrol long life oil 504 compliant because it's long life, or because it has the improved characteristics that go along with being long life? The 2.5L 5cyl RS cars in the US that use it are high strung RS models, and they still use the same 10k miles oil change interval as all the 502 and 508 motors. Though, is this a dealership business model convenience more than an engineering decision? Does the 2.5L have the oil analysis computer to decide when between 10k and 18k miles it's time to change the oil? So they require the long life oil, but do not make any use of the long life aspect. I assume because the engine simply needs a better oil. Why not use it on all the engines? Not to save you money come oil change time, but to save their business partners, the dealerships, money on oil change costs. Be my guess.

Also ran across another board where it was stated that 504/507 has a lower metallic content that helps newer diesel emissions systems than the older 502/505, so talking about the 505/507 side of the oil spec. I guess that falls into the area of trying to make a few products address multiple disparate requirements. So 504/507 might be less abrasive on exhaust systems, but that might have nothing to do, or something to do, with why the 2.5L gasoline engine uses that oil grade.

I'd be curious how 504 would do long term in the 2.0T, but I can get a 5qt of the 502 compliant oil for $30 after tax. I'd have to order the 504 oil in individual quarts from the internet for $40-$45. And the 504 is only in 10w-30, not the preferred 10w-40 for my car in my region. Though 10w-30 is acceptable per the manual, I'm not about to go poking the oil consumption gods because I was feeling bored.

But maybe this is different in other countries/regions. Local climate and such will impact oil change interval and viscosity recommendation, etc. Everything you should need to know to pick a correct oil is in your owner's manual.
