maximum tire size without rubbing
Hi all, apologies if this has been covered, but I tried searching to no avail.
As I wait for my car (hopefully this week) to be delivered ()
I'm planning ahead--I have a set of tires (235 50 18) that are brand new on my aftermarket wheels. I would like to put these wheels on my new 2.0 quattro, but I'm going to assume these tires are too big...(FWIW: I know the sport package has 18" wheels wrapped in 245/40 tires...)
Are these tires going to rub against the fender? Or will they simply give inaccurate speedo readings...those I can live with...rubbing, not so much
thanks!

235/50/18 is 5% larger than the largest factory wheel & tire setup on the A4 B8 so I wouldn't do it.
The person suggesting that he's running 255/25/19 (which is an obvious typo for 255/35/19 given the photos and lack of an available tire in this rubberband sizing) is running an approved factory sized tire. 235/50/18 is larger in diameter by 1.25" than the 255/35/19 setup.
Also were your wheels from another car like a previous Audi? If so, the center bore is different and won't just bolt up. At best you'd need an adapter.
If neither the rims nor the tires are really right for the car, I'd sell them and get something intended for this platform.

Sorry. I did make a typo. My tire size is 255/35/19 as suggested. The 1.25 diameter is pretty significant but you can always bolt them on and just try it out. That is assuming that you were aware of the new bore size. But, if that isn't the case then JasonR is absolutely right. They just won't work.
No, mine is not an S-line.

Hey I have a sport package avant with audi s5 sport wheels which are 19". They have 255/35/19 tires. Other than a little bit poorer fuel economy, there is only slight rub with three passengers.

And this too has nothing to do with the OP's question, but I guess that's par for the course, right?
