Need help with error code P0420
Greetings. I will run a quick background of how the error appeared. When I first bought the car 3 months ago, after a week of driving one of the injectors went faulty and the car could barely start, and it would smell like gasoline everywhere. Right after fixing it, a new error code appeared due to faulty oxygen sensor. My mechanic suggested I just drive around and evaporate the gasoline off of it and if it persists, then we can change it. Sometime later, my exhaust tube fell off emiting loud sound and vibrations. I was driving with it for a while until code P0420 appeared. Then I got my tube attached, and later on took the car to my mechanic again. He concluded that it's a faulty oxygen sensor and replaced it, but after a little while the check engine light turned on once again. Being short on finances at the moment, I would like to increase the chances that the error will diminish with the next fix. Sometimes I can smell gasoline in the car while driving and it consumes a lot more fuel. The mechanic excluded the cat converter as a problem as it looked fresh. Any ideas what should I look for next and how could I diagnose the problem more accurately? Any advice is upmostly appreciated

The injector problem could have caused a rich condition which shortened the life of the cat. How many miles on it if your exhaust is falling off?
You can drive with this problem until you need to pass inspection, so work overtime and just save up some money until then.

Its 115k km. Well at this stage the car consumes enormous amounts of fuel, it's somewhere close to 20liters/100km, making it an ache for the wallet. Could a failing cat result in such an increased fuel consumption?
