Ok, so the B8 is quite a bit bigger than the B7. Do you think the B9 will be bigger than the B8?

probably not. I think there is a fundamental change from 3 size classes to 4
Cars like the A3 and the 1 series will occupy the entry luxury space previously occupied by the A4 and 3 series. The new MB C-class is larger than its predecessor, and I would expect the next BMW 3 series to buy larger too. Cars like the Infiniti G35 and Cadillac CTS were already larger than their German competitors, so in a sense the Germans are just catching up and adapting to American/Chinese tastes.

Why not? Growing a few mm here or there is totally possible.
But eventually, you'll have to stop if it becomes wider than a standard street lane or longer than a standard garage, I would think.

that's what i'm trying to get at.. when does it stop?
Will the A4 eventually be as big as the current A6?
Or maybe they'll slow down and start shrinking?
Can you imagine an A4 the size of an A8?

Recently saw an C5 A6 parked next to a Dodge Avenger, the Avenger appeared larger!
Cars not only continue to grow in length but there is also a noticeably increase in height and thickness. Many large cars from the 70's and 80's appear almost tiny compared to today's vehicles. Crash standards play a significant role in the evolution of design by increasing in the vehicle bloat factor.
