Default A Really Minor Mod

I have a 2010 A4 Premium Plus 6MT Sport Pkg in Phantom Black on order for delivery the first week of July (2009, I hope!). For $50.00 on EBay, I picked up a glossy black grill filler panel for a U.S. plate from a Prestige owner to replace the grey panel that will come with the car so that it will blend in better with the body color. I did something similar with my Moro Blue 2006 B7 when I installed a faux German plate in a glossy black Euro filler panel, and it looked pretty good (see photo below taken at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course). After a year and a half of driving around with my fake plate without any problems, I decided to go back to my required Ohio front plate after a warning from a State Trooper and then warnings from 2 different police departments in one day several weeks later. Discretion is the better part of valor, as they say. In any event, just curious to know if anyone has made, or is planning to make, this very modest modification. My '06 goes back to the dealer at lease end this Saturday -- sad to see her go ... has been a wonderful car in all respects.

California demands a front plate to increase their revenue from Red Light and Right Turn cameras. Drive into LAX without a front plate and the police will drop their important duty of protecting us from hijackers and bombers to write you a fix-it ticket. Those used to be free, but now it costs about $50 in fees.

A top law enforcement officer told me he registers his car in his wife's name, and her car in his name. If you get a ticket with a picture, the registered owner sends in a copy of their drivers license and says, that's not me. You cannot be compelled to turn in the person in the picture. Just don't lie and say you don't know. Just remain silent. Let them conduct their own investigation, but for the cut of the fine the police get ($40 to $50) of the $371. they cannot be bothered.

Where does all the money go? Into traffic safety? Fixing the roads? Drivers Education? Noooooooo, the public employee unions have taken over the legislature. The result is Highway Patrolmen, Prison Guards, DMV cubicle workers, and State Firefighters drag home over $ 100,000 a year, and can retire as early as age 48 with a 90% pension. This is with 30 years of service. Not bad for a job where most workers had to struggle to finish high school.

Default Might want to double check to make sure you have the matching color...

Not all A4's have the same color grill. There's a charcoal color and glossy black. I believe 2.0's have the charcoal and 3.2's have glossy black. That seemed to be consistent with the inventory I saw on my local dealer's lot. Not sure about s-line or sport packages.

My 2010 will have the charcoal grey grill, but I'll be using the glossy black filler panel for U.S. plate to add continuity to that panel and the phantom black front bumper. I recognize that it won't be an exact match color-wise. Since the panel only cost me 50 bucks, I'll go back to the stock grey panel if it looks odd. I'll send pics once I get the car in July.

Default A "minor" mod that makes a World of difference...

hope it looks good with the mismatching colors, but I'd suggest getting the charcoal one if the glossy black doesn't look right to you. Don't put the license plate mount back on, it looks SO much better with a filler panel
