About to order a 2010 a4 and the dealer wants a 10% deposit? Is this legit? Ive heard of 500 or 1000$ bucs but 4-5g's???

I was told nothing, and $500 for my factory orders for an '09. The $500 was fully refundable for any reason (i.e. I just decided not to buy the car)

I put down what I guess was 5% deposit for my 2009 A4 pre-order. Same as TQM, it was fully refundable even if the car got here and I decided at the last minute not to pull the trigger. Put it on my credit card to get some reward points

I put down $1000.00 for my 2010 A4. The sum requested was between $500.00 - $1000.00.

10% deposit sounds like a ripoff unless you are ordering something oddball that is hard to sell. $500-1000 (fully refundable) is about the norm. Take your business elsewhere.

Agreed. I put down $1000 probably could have asked to only put down $500. Fully refundable despite it being a 6MT which is supposedly "hard to sell" if I walked away.

I did have one dealer ask for $1000 non-refundable.

$500 is average. 10% seems very high.

Whether your deposit is fully refundable generally depends on the state. In some it's always refundable, and in others it may not be. Where I am it is refundable until the order can't be changed, at which point it becomes non-refundable.

Thanks guys!!! after hearing your opinions and looking at some stuff on the net I told that dealer I would be going somewhere else for my car.
