Default Something shifty, Part II

I noticed lately that when I use my paddle shifters to downshift, the transmission stays hung up in that gear for an awfully long time. Yesterday I was in D5 and came upon a slight incline in the road, so I manually downshifted, ending up in M4. A couple of blocks later, a car moved into my lane so I slowed down. A couple of blocks after that, the guy turned, so I stepped on the gas to accelerate. The next thing I know is that my engine is revving past 4,000 rpm. So I manually upshifted into M5, then M6.

Later, I tried a test and I hit the paddle shifter to downshift (again into M4), and I tried to maintain my speed to see what would happen. Well, I drove almost 10 blocks before the transmission went into D4 (automatic) mode.

Now I have done plenty of manual shifting in the past, and my transmission always returns to the "D" mode in about 15-20 seconds or so. But now it seems to take way long.

Anybody else experience this? (By the way, the engine is fully warmed when this occurs.)

I assume you're running OEM software? I paddle shift pretty often because it seems like D mode shifts way too quickly and S mode revs slightly too high for normal city driving. In all cases, the car returns to D or S after 10 seconds or so. While not necessarily helpful to your situation, I find myself just putting the car in manual shift mode and using the paddles more often lately. I guess you should call up your service rep and see what he recommends. I've heard talk of transmission related software updates on the forums, but can't say for sure whether one is available for your car and if it would fix the issue you're having.
