Valve Cover Gasket Replacement

Valve Cover Gasket Replacement
I am wondering if anybody has experienced replacing this on their own. I had gotten an inquiry on the price to replace it from my local mechanic. He had given me a price of around $800. I am curious if it is worth my time to try and do it myself? Any opinions would be helpful. Thanks

Not a simple task. The head cover also holds the cams down, so removing it involves locking the cams into place and releasing the tensioner on the timing chain.
If you've not grabbed the repair manuals from erwin.audiusa.com and looked over the process and special tools involved, you might do that to decide if learning how to do it without trashing your engine is worth the time investment and tool costs vs. just paying $800.
I'm also not sure what you are replacing it with. Audi is very specific that the head and cover are a matched pair. Are you replacing the cover, or just redoing the seal? It's a silicon seal, not a gasket.
I'm pretty sure there's threads here or on Audizine on the operation.
