Window Tinting
2009 A4 Owner.
Question:
I would like to tint my side windows and back window, but I'm not sure to what degree. I'm an adult now, not a high school kid who wants to look "cool" with limo tint haha, but at the same time I can appreciate a slight tint and understand it can make the car look nicer. What % would you guys recommend I get on the windows?
Thanks

I'm considering aft window tinting myself. I'm surprised Audi doesn't offer same at time of order.
There are legal limits to the degree of tint in most countries and US states, so first check your locale restrictions.
It's a pretty easy procedure now with many experienced glass shops.

Usually side and rear tint are unrestricted. Front side windows and windshield are usually restricted or limited.
It's your car so you need to decide why you are getting the tint done in the first place. What is the predominant weather where you live? Tint serves cosmetic as well as functional purposes so your needs are a primary consideration before you can consider tint %'s.

NY is much more restrictive than that ... see here:

However, I've been driving cars around LI with 35% tint for years (like 20 years) without any issues with the law. I even had one done at 20% and never got pulled over for it. 20% is a little too dark for me though as I had trouble seeing behind me when backing up. I think that as long as you're not driving like a jerk, you shouldn't run into any issues.

I believe NY is 70% side windows, any tint rear. I researched legislation was pending to make tint an inspection item. Our daughter had a tinted Jetta and got one ticket from a meter maid in Manhattan. I would check with who ever does your annual inspections. I can park in the shade in the summer)))

Just so we're clear (pun intended), when we cite 35% tint (as in Mass) of the aft side and rear windows it's actually allowing only 35% of the available light in, so pretty dark.
In a sport wagon it's not only good for reducing sun-heat loading and glare but also a pretty effective privacy shield if you don't like using the cargo shade.

I live in an area where summers get over 100+, so I went dark (and not so legal in CA). I have 5% on all rear windows and 27% on my fronts. No matter what % you go with, go big and pick the ceramic. I have F1 ceramics and the difference between it and normal tint is huge.
