Plastidip Front Grille Preparation Question: safe to mask over 3M Clear Bar Pro Film?
Anyone know if it's safe to apply painter's blue masking tape over a recently applied 3M Pro Film Clear Bra? (~3-4 weeks)
I have a 2017 Black SOA A4, but the chrome just kind of degrades from the front end (as do the amber reflectors). I'd like to black out the front center and lower grilles with Plastidip, but was wondering if I would pull off/damage the recently installed 3M Clear Bra when removing the paint and/or masking tape afterwards.
I've tried googling and couldn't find any answers.
Mahalo.

I dont see why not, the 3M should be completely cured(dry) at that point. Painters tape isnt really that sticky which is why its functional in lots of situations.

3M makes two types of blue painters tape. #2090 is the common medium tack blue painters tape. #2080 is the blue low tack version. It still produces a crisp line but is low tack and is made for freshly painted surfaces. Home Depot carries both versions.
Use the low tack version if in doubt about disturbing the clear bra. Plastidip is high viscosity and won't bleed under the low tack tape.
Also the proper way to utilize painters tape is make a dry pass along the edge first to seal the edge. Then you can do wet coats and not worry about paint bleeding under the tape.
Dry pass meaning not much paint on a roller or brush or just a light dusting of paint from a rattle can.

I'm waiting for the weather to warm up (and stop raining) before I get to this project, but I will post pix once I get it done.
