This drawing is for the Allroad, but the other A4s should be similar. With no front plate the blanking panels #25 are installed. If a front plate is needed in your state your car should have been delivered with a wide panel that plugs into the recesses revealed when the 2 blanking plates are removed. The bad news is that the wide panel for attaching a front plate is in the $300 price range, so if I get ticketed for running without I will build my own solution.

Yes. And it is hard to find -- the online parts catalogs seem to list only the blanking plates that are used when a front license is required. Somebody in this forum posted a picture of it once but I can't find it right now. The A4 sedan solution is different, and is "only" $119.
If I ever get forced into adding one I will cut a backboard the same size as the plastic frame that fits around the plate, and attach that backboard directly to the blanking plates with spacers long enough to get the front plate out in front of the grill bars. But so far I just carry the plate in the car.
Beware of solutions that move the plate to a bottom corner of the front -- it is really easy to block critical sensors.

Thanks, Dan. Mine is also an Allroad. I’m thinking of getting some Perspex and just making one up, similar to what you said. If I do, I will post dimension info for others. Good tip on the sensors! Cheers!

I have a front plate holder for an A4 Allroad 2017 and up+ (B9). New, take off on purchase after 125 miles.
If anyone is looking for one I'm willing to get rid of it cheap.

Is it the same and would it work on a 2017 A4 Sedan?
I recently bought a used 2017 and according to the sticker it was not included.. The original delivery point was to Michigan and since Michigan doesn't use front licence plate...
