Consumer Reports Names New A4 Best In Class and #1 In Owner Satisfaction
Consumer Reports has just named the B9 overall number one rated car in the luxury compact sedan class in their February, 2017 issue, and it was first by a comfortable margin.
The ratings took into consideration reliability, owner satisfaction, front crash prevention, road test score, overall MPG, braking 60-0, acceleration 0-60, avoidance maneuver speed, handling, ride/noise, seat comfort, controls and luggage space.
The ten cars listed in class in descending order:
1. Audi A4 Premium Plus, overall score 85 points
2. Buick Regal Premium I, 81 points
3. BMW 328d xDrive, 78 points
4. BMW 330i xDrive, 78 points
5. Volvo S60 T5, 73 points
6. Mercedes Benz C300 4MATIC, 71 points
7. Infiniti Q50 3.0t Premium AWD, 71 points
8. Lexus IS 300, AWD, 66 points
9. Cadillac ATS Luxury 2.0T, 60 points
10. Acura TLX SH-AWD, 55 points
The issue also listed separate Owner Satisfaction ratings for the various classes and the A4 was rated first in its class. CU defines these ratings as being based on how likely car owners would be to buy the same vehicle again, with owner input on factors such as value and driving experience considered.
For the Luxury Compact Cars, these were the vehicles rated in descending order:
1. Audi A4
2. Buick Regal
3. BMW 3 Series
4. Mercedes Benz C Class
5. Volvo S60
6. Acura TLX
7. Lexus IS
8. Cadillac ATS
9. Infinity Q50

Dave, nice to see that. The Lexus, Caddy and Acura are WAY DOWN the list! What's up with that?

I'm not the least bit surprised. It is pretty damn close to the perfect car!

Yup. I'm not surprised either. Took my A7 out on a long (150miles) drive today after a long long time and I realised I didn't miss it much (except for that 3.0......there I go again).

I was invited to the Audi Driving Experience when the A7 was first introduced. I had an '11 S5 Cab at the time. Please don't take offense, but the interior in the A6/A7 was the one thing that held me back from leasing/purchasing one. I just never connected with it. (Although the exterior of the A7 is drop-dead sexy.) My S5 had an outdated interior, but I still liked it more. Until the A4 came along. I can only imagine what the next-gen A6/A7 interiors will look like!

Audi has been doing well in CR's rankings. In addition to the B9, last time I checked the A6 was rated #1 in its segment. The Q5 had been rated #2 behind the X3, but as it's gotten a little long in the tooth (in its 9th model year) other new models have surpassed it. The new gen Q5 should do well.
