Default Cosmoline or something else?

Searched the forum and found another thread on the A8 board that matched the exact issue I'm experiencing but no final answer was left. Purchased a used 17 B9 PP with 2,900 miles. Car was sold and still located in Texas. After driving the vehicle and parking in my garage I've noticed a puddle or trail of fluid. Its rusty in color and smells rusty too. When dried it is sticky as well. Located off center closer to the passenger side engine. Could not find anything wet on the undercarriage but didn't lift the car up on jacks. Any ideas or similar experiences? TIA

I read that post, but as far as I can tell everything looks dry up there looking from the bottom. The spot is not that large, I'll try to post a picture. I'm going to check the transmission fluid in the mean time.

I don't believe so...undercarriage is like new, car was inspected prior to purchase. Tried to duplicate the leak, let the car sit overnight, nothing. Took it out for a drive this am and let it sit, nothing. I think due to the high temps here (close to 100) it's probably cosmoline. Made an appt with the dealership, when I find out or determine everything is tight and no leaks I'll post back. Thanks for the feedback.

Follow up...it seems this only occurs when the a/c is running and water is dripping from the under the car. Guess the water from the condensation is mixing with something on the firewall causing a mixture of clear and brownish substance or the burp valve is plugged?

As promised, after taking the car to the dealership the substance was Cosmoline. The high temperatures in Texas was the probable cause that liquified the substance coating the undercarriage.
