I thought the MMI will give Oil Level info only after you drive few mile post oil change. After I changed the oil and tried to check the level at first start, the screen said the level info will be ready after diving. I put in 5.5 qts and it's at full mark both by the MMI and a dip stick.

Remember a liter does not equal a quart. 5 Liters = 5.3 quarts.

Within this thread there is a thoughtful conversation about the benefits using a high quality VW502 versus VW504 rated oil. Both VW502 and VW504 oils are acceptable for use in the Audi A4 B9 engine. The VW404 standard is a newer and it is reported to have better protection against engine wear, reduction in sludge and deposits formation as well as reducing gasoline consumption due to lower friction when compared to the older VW502 rating. A number of posters were concerned that the higher sulfur standard in US gasoline, as compared to the European Union (EU) petrol sulfur standard could adversely affect the VW 504 oils as compared to the more "robust" VW 502 oils. The the sulfur petrol standard EURO-5 standard, EN 590-2009 (which is currently enforced in Europe) has a 10 ppm sulfur limit. The USEPA-Tier 2 gasoline standard, which took affect in 2017 in the USA, has a 10 ppm maximum sulfur level in gasoline sold in the states. As of now both the EU and the USA sulfur regulations are the same.

Does everyone use a dipstick when doing their oil change? I haven't checked my car but it looks like everyone is saying you have to buy a dipstick. I have never heard of a car not coming with one. Why wouldn't Audi include one here?

My 2009 A4 B8 did not come with a dipstick. It was came with an MMI to measure oil. This is the same with my 2018 A4 B9.

Maybe it's an Audi thing. Regardless, do you just use the MMI to verify level then?

I have an old ECS dipstick that I bought for my 2009 A4. When my 2018 A4 came from the factory with 8 miles on the odometer I recorded the oil level on my old dipstick. This is the level that I use when I change my oil. To get it to the top of the "full" mark on my dipstick I usually add 5 quarts of oil. This corresponds perfectly with the "full" mark on the MMI diagram. Every couple of weeks I usually check my oil using the MMI. This is more convenient than using a dip stick.

The reason I use the ECS dipstick when I add oil is because I do not want to overfill in the event that the extractor somehow did not remove all of the old oil. So I add 4 quarts, check with the dipstick, then add 1/2 quart, check with the dipstick, and then another 1/2 quart do a final check with the dipstick. As long as I am close to the "oil full" mark, I stop adding oil. As I said I do not want to overfill. Then I run the car around the block, turn it off and check the MMI a bit later. It always shows a "full" bar graph. Throughout the oil change interval I have not had to add oil. In fact the MMI never shows a level below "full" during this time interval.

Just did my first oil change at 5K miles. Took about 15-20 minutes to fully extract the oil using my Pela 6000. Used 5 quarts of Castrol 5W30 VW 504. Used a genuine VW/Audi oil filter too. Piece of cake and the oil level shows at the max mark on both the MMI and my app. Next change at the dealer at 10K. I believe in oil changes every 5K. The oil was a dark black so I feel good changing at every 5K just to be "safe".

I fully agree with you. This is an easy car to change oil when you use an extractor. The cheapest insurance for your car is frequent oil and filter changes. Where did you purchase the Castrol 5W30 VW 504 oil?

@Prof...ordered everything from ECS with free shipping. I bought the Audi Care Plan so I am going to plan to do my own changes between Audi intervals. Cheap and very easy as you stated above.
