Years ago my response would have been pretty negative to this news. But now I think if the technology is mature and gives me reliability, good range, and power, then sure why not.
It'll be interesting learning how to hot rod an electric.

No EV in my near term future as I park in a parking lot at home with no access to power.

When it can go 400 miles in the winter with the heat running, then it's ready to replace ICE. That all the manufacturers are skipping the obvious solution, electric motor drivetrain and an ICE generator, is a bit annoying.

The BMW i3 REx (range extender) is what you describe, and it hasn't been very effective/popular (neither was the Volt). "BMW believes its time has nearly come and rang the death bell for the i3 REx...In a discussion about battery technology at the auto show, Freimann declared lithium-ion battery technology is advanced enough to leave range-extenders out of electric cars"

The lucid air has 517 miles of range. By 2024 range will not be an issue. Even if you only had 300 miles of range how often do you drive that far in a single day. Electric cars are meant to be recharged every night and will be full every morning.
