Default "Function on Demand"

As long as this doesn't do away with factory-ordered Navigation, I don't have a problem with it:

Not for this guy. I'm not a cheapskate, but $850/year + taxes? No thanks. Waze or Maps on Carplay works just fine. What am I, Magellan??

I'm not sure who "may need a one-month navigation subscription on a road trip, allowing passengers and rear-seat occupants with up to eight compatible devices, such as smartphones or tablets, the ability to watch videos using a vehicle’s built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection.", but I suppose it doesn't hurt to offer it. I don't see a lot of uptake on this though.

The Light Function Package just looks like an attempt to up-sell buyers to the next level optioned vehicle that they didn't buy? Bought a Premium? Well, here's another change to buy those Premium Plus options you didn't buy.

It's probably just a enabling some code for Audi, and if someone wants these few features (short-term Nav, lights) but didn't want the full Navigation or Plus model, it's a relatively inexpensive option/upgrade.

As long as items don't start coming off the equipment packages and turning into subscription-only options.

I wonder if they will start encrypting the things that we can now hack with OBD11 and VAG-COM so that you have to purchase them.

I hear you. That's why I said "As long as this doesn't do away with factory-ordered Navigation." I would rather pay for it as an option on my car, than as a yearly subscription.

VW has sorta started this encryption already and OBDeleven has got approval from VW to work around those security/encryption features.
