Default Google Fi Data SIM in A4?

I just signed up for Google Fi wireless service - $20 per month and $10 per GB of data - I'm going to try it on my older unlocked iPhone to see what I think. I also ordered a second data-only SIM - free, and uses the same $10 per GB of data. Any idea if this will work in my A4 to provide roaming data? If so, it's a better deal than adding the car to my AT&T account.

Assuming you are in the right forum, then yes and no. While the B9 A4 does have a SIM slot, it can only be used for the car's hotspot, but requires coding to enable it. All the other online functions such as Google Earth etc. require a license that comes with an official subscription and uses the embedded eSIM. On the off-chance that you are in the wrong forum and you have a B8 A4, then yes, it should work. The Google Fi data SIM uses T-Mobile, but if the car is a MY13 and hasn't had a new modem retrofitted, then you'll only get a 2G signal, because T-Mobile changed their frequency bands a couple of years ago.

If you enable the external SIM then all data will route through that SIM, even Google Earth and such that usually uses the eSIM. Unless you really need the external SIM for hotspot data, it does not makes sense to enable and use one as long as an AudiConnect subscription is active. Once the AudiConnect subscription expires it would be possible to enable the external SIM for hotspot data and possibly Google Earth (but not the other AudiConnect services).

Interesting. This explains why, during the first 6 months I used up the complementary 6GB so quickly. That data should have lasted a long time since we did not use the car hotspot much. I missed that in the manual.

The 6GB is for hotspot data only though, data used by Google Earth and other AudiConnect services should not count against that limit.
