he full code is P2681 - Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Control Circuit/Open.
My A4 has 40800 miles on it and I got this code back from Autozone. Car runs fine as far as I know. Did anyone have this issue and what was at fault? Made an appointment at my Audi dealership for next week.
Thanks!

Is the car heating as quickly as normal? If not, it could be the valve that controls coolant to from the heater core until it's warm. If it's taking longer than normal to heat, it may be locked open. Of if it never heats, locked closed - more likely, I think.
Or, it could be the thermostat itself - closed is probably the default so you may not see a problem until it's warm outside and the Tstat needs to open and the car overheats.
Or it could be a different coolant bypass.
But assuming it's under warranty, going to the dealer is the correct next step.

the engine heats up normally and without any issues. In addition I also checked the heat and the ac on max and it was also running fine.
unfortunately the car isn't under warranty anymore, so I want to find out as much info as possible before shelling out the $160 diagnostic fee.

The DTC seems direct enough. Some N82 valve issue or wiring to the N82 valve issue. Would be nice if the DTC text directly referenced the N82. Since that's a P code and not a 5-char Audi component identifier, ask the dealership to confirm.
Should be in the plenum chamber. https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B8_A4...ch/4H0121671D/
Some context, though different vehicle - https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...28034-9999.pdf

My A4 with 57k miles just threw out this fault code.
The fix for mine turned out to be a "Water Pump Assembly with Control Valve" replacement. A little under $800 to repair, including labor.
Important: There was corrosion on the connector from a coolant leak that may have contributed to the fault code - make sure that the repair tech cleans the contacts (if needed) during the replacement. In retrospect, it's possible that cleaning the contacts might have fixed the fault code without replacing the water pump.
