Looking at the A5 sportback from a A6 C7.
Love the hatchback and baby a7 but still have to wait to get color and prices are high still. Same setup in a4 is much cheaper and easier to find. Maybe some used too.
Anyone regret getting the a4 or look at both?

I had, yes, but my A4 surprised the hell out of me over the weekend by easily swallowing a twin mattress with the rear seats folded down, so I'm done worrying about the hatch.

Pros & cons, either way. Your choice, your decision. Can't go wrong either way.

i did. but considering the investment, i figured i'd need the space in the long run.
on the plus side, i ended up with a fully loaded 17 A4 S-line technik pkg as opposed to an A5 progressive pkg.

Fortunately (for my sanity), the wise folks at Audi decided not to offer the A5 SB with a manual transmission for the US market. My decision was very simple as a result, and I'm quite happy with my new A4.

I started on my journey in September/October 2016 convinced I was going to buy a new 2018 A5. I started my talks with a dealer and sadly was informed that they would not have pricing or be able to place an order until January 2018. During those couple of months, I researched everything I could about the A5 Coupe and Sportsback and not once did I think about the A4......
January finally came, but they still didn't have pricing and couldn't take orders. My wife kept asking, why I was looking at a 2 door car when we were a family of 5. I let her know that the car was not going to be a family car, it was just for her and me......after all, if we needed to travel as a family, we had the Honda Accord and Odyssey to use.....
February came, and I still was unable to place an order......so for the heck of it, I took a look at the A4 and noticed it was cheaper when I configured it the same way....That got me thinking, the A5 is built on the same frame, so I asked for quotes and was pleasantly surprised to see the price difference......
After thinking long and hard....I realized that the value of the A4 when compared to the A5 with the same options, was just too good to pass up...So I ended up ordering the A4 and took delivery of it on 25 May and I don't regret it.....at the end of the day, I think the wife was right about having 4 doors and while the sportsback looks great also, I just could not pull the trigger on a hatchback that was gonna cost me more money

So, I was all set to buy the A4 and I did my first test drive for the A4 back in January and went back in March to make a deal but I did not get a good offer and became busy and did not get back to finalizing a deal. But once the A5 Sportback came on dealer lots & I test drove one I was sold on the A5 SportBack vs. the A4.

They are all nice cars and can all do a lot of things. No bad choices either way. It's simply a matter of paying a higher price point for a brand new, styling ride, or sticking to something that is a bit more affordable.
