Default New Windshield Question

So today a rock hit my front windshield and caused it to crack. It was literally about an inch away from missing my windshield altogether. My insurance is covering it, costs me nothing. Anyways my question is does the camera need to be recalibrated or anything after the windshield is replaced?

I believe yes. The camera needs to be recalibrated after windshield replacements.

Since you have a Prestige with HUD - make sure they replace it with the correct glass. Apparently there some that aren't compatible with HUD - as discovered by a gentleman over on the Q7 MK!! board.

Yup. Cars with HUD have a different windshield since the normal windshield will cause the HUD to have a double-vision effect (idk what the exact term is). Even when you buy aftermarket HUDs, they give you a special reflective sticker to stick on the windshield for the HUD to be legible.

For sure, the company is going to try and get a windshield from the dealership since they don't have any that fit my car. I gave them a VIN number so that they can get the correct glass. If they are going to get it from the dealership I think I just may drop off my car at the dealership and do the recall on my car at the same time the glass company does a new glass repair. I'll know more Monday.

An inch more over and it would have missed.

Goes across 1/3 of the total windshield.

UPDATE:

To answer my own question I contacted the dealership today and yes the camera has to be recalibrated. It's going to cost around $425 and 2-3 hours to do so. Luckily my insurance covers the recalibration. Thank God for full coverage glass insurance.

Just waiting for the glass to be ordered. Hope to get the windshield done by the end of the week or the weekend. Good time to knock out that recall fix too so that I can get a loaner car and drive the **** out of that one lol.

In this scenario, I think I would try to have the dealer handle the entire project so they can shoulder the blame when things don't go well...
