Is there launch control on the a4 b9?

Probably more hard on the transmission, driveline components and particularly the s-tronic clutch setup (and your neck) than the engine. I wouldn't worry about playing with it the odd time, but personally it's not something I'd use on a daily basis over and over. Not that you'd probably be able to use it during your daily driving anyway !
The new rear drive engagement clutch on the 'ultra' Quattro is an unknown in terms of strength and reliability. I wonder how well that will take to repeated launch control starts. I suspect when you are in launch mode that clutch probably fully engages to give you AWD before you launch.

You will notice by the engine revs going to about 3,000 rpm and holding there until you release the brake pedal.

What happens if you are in P and you push the gas pedal to the floor...I believe it revs to 4,000 and stops going higher, so I'm not sure it's actually launch control.

Lol. That's a good question but what...why would you do that? it's not like it's a straight 8 to want to be doing that.
But... that leads to another question regarding this... what if you are in D and then switch to S from the shifter but you're not in Dynamic, but you're in personal settings (eco engine, sporty feel)... can you brake and then accelerate as though you want to do launch control?
Same thing about personal settings, but now you're in manual from the clutch?
