Default 2.0T & 3.0T Differences

Hi Everyone,

Long time visitor. First time member. I'm a new Audi fan. I love my first Audi(2013 A6 3.0T Prestige). But this not being my first German make I couldn't help but notice two things that aren't very German like. The brake pedal feel is so much better on the 2.OT. It is firm and easy to modulate as compared to the 3.0T which is spongy with much much more travel. Secondly the transmission on take off stumbles and shifts into second awkwardly with an audible knock. The 2.0T on the other hand is smooth and refined. Just as one would expect from a ZF transmission.

Has anyone else driven the two back to back? Any observations? Could I have a unique problem. The car has had a start/stop system problem. Dealer replaced the solenoid in the trans.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Thanks

The shifting problem you describe doesn't sound entirely normal. Mine does not "knock", although I have noticed at certain throttle amounts, the 1st to 2nd gear change can "flutter" for a moment.

I've noticed driving different C7s (A6 and A7 loaners) that the brake feel varies from car to car. Generally, the brake pedal feel is not a strong point of all the C7's. They do stop just fine, though, and I've found the feel does get a bit better with miles.

I think 2.0T and 3.0T use the same brake system so there should be no inherent design difference between the two. Likewise both use the same 8 speed tiptronic tranny.

1st to 2nd roughness.. yes. i have that on my 3.0 too when there is no gas supplied during the transmission upshifts. i.e. in stop and go traffic with slight down hill. Coming from stationary, I lightly step on the gas pedal to move the car, then release the gas. If the transmission upshifts right after you release the gas pedal, there will be a serious "clunk" as if someone has rear ended you. As far as i know, there is a TSB to address this.

The 8-speed transmissions in both the 2.0 and the 3.0 have the same ratios. I was wondering if the fact that the 2.0 reaches its torque peak at 1500 rpm and stays flat for a long while the 3.0 reaches its torque peak at 2500 rpm means the 3.0 is still spooling up its power during these upshifts while maybe the 2.0 is already settled in at its torque plateau? Somewhere (maybe this site or the old AoA site) I saw a graphical comparison of the torque and HP of the two engines and I believe that up to certain rpms the 2.0 might even deliver more torque than the 3.0, perhaps making it work more smoothly with the 8-speed Tiptronic at lower rpms. Just a guess and a stretch. It annoys me that I cannot find those charts now. The new Audi site is missing a lot of this kind of info IMHO.

I wish manufacturers would get that some people want all the bells and whistles, but still want and economical ride. I would opt for the 2.0 if I could get the Prestige and Ann the options, sure the 3.0 is a blast to drive, but for 14900 miles out of the 15000 miles I drive a year the 2.0 would be fine.

I believe that the 2.0T has smaller front calipers or at least they used to. I noticed that when I was researching the smallest wheel size for winter tires.
