3.0 carbon cleaning before/after

"I then started noticing that I had that rattle at 1300rpms from my resonator / exhaust pipes. I was motivated to get this fixed but again, was within spec. I had always thought about a carbon cleaning and just paying it myself, especially to know what I was dealing with anyway since I bought it used. I read that guy had the same rattle and he had a carbon cleaning done that made it go away. So, given this, and that I wanted to see about improving the idle, I had the carbon cleaning done. There is a noticeable difference, but its not 100% better."
The rattle that you hear is not from carbon buildup....is actually your cat/ resonator. I had the same issue and had my cats replaced at 85k miles or so under CPO warranty

I have 124k miles on mine, and trying to convince myself I need the carbon cleaning. But I can't.
The car still has great acceleration and the MPGs are close to sticker...when I'm not driving it like I'm being chased, lol. 75% Hwy miles, 1 bottle of techron every 10k, only BP or Shell 93 octane. Recently changed oil/filter change frequency to 7500 miles. Nice to know there are cleaning options available though if I ever think I need it.

do the 2016 CREC engines in the a6 suffer from this? i have been looking for the answer for a while and it seems like no one has a def answer. i have about 37k on my car and i dont want to have to pay to disassemble the supercharger and go through all of that if its not necessary.

All direct injected motors will have some form of carbon build up, unless you have a dual Port and Direct Injection. Some motors handle carbon build up better than others. On the 3.0T, the majority I've seen are pretty good even at higher mileage.

i have 100k on my 3.0T, oil chang every 5k miles, everything seems to be fine, the rattling at around 1-1.2k rpm was deem to be the cat and resonator, which was replaced last year under CPO warranty before it expired
