The TSB update was for the convenience Module only to address the two issues as I discussed so far as I can tell. My MMI is still 0566. I haven't noticed any other changes at this point other than I have to re-Vag my keyfob to operate the windows/sunroof.

Thanks for the info. Is this TSB applicable for all A6 in worldwide markets or only for US cars?

What MMI version do you have?
Here's a pic of MMI version.

So, should the brake automatically come on when I open the door and am in gear?

I believe the e-brake was designed to engage in park when the car is turned off. I don't think it's common use to not have your foot on the foot brake when in gear while opening the door. I never tried that but doubt Audi envisioned that anyone would do this and expect to have the e-brake engage automatically. Or have the engine shut off while in gear. You could always try it.

I have no idea outside of North America. Call your dealer and ask them. Regulations in other countries may vary and require either feature.

1. Emergency brake is no longer "auto-engaged" when the engine is turned off. Also, as a result, the seat belt fastening requirement is now moot since the e-brake is now set/released manually only by the driver.

2. "Auto engine shutoff" when driver door is opened is disabled.

No more having to remember to fasten your seat belt or manually hit the ebrake to drive the car a few feet or having to restart the engine when opening the driver door for a moment. Just like the "old" days.

I believe these have already been disabled in MMI software 0609 and may not have been enabled in the first place for software earlier than MMI 0566.

If you have these "features" and they annoy you, request the dealer perform TSB 2031850/3 to have them disabled. Note that any Vag-Com mods that were done to the Convenience Module, i.e. keyfob window/sunroof open/close, will have to be redone as they will be overwritten.
I have to amend my post a bit after experimenting with the e-brake portion of the TSB update...

While the TSB will result in eliminating the auto-on e-brake feature when you place the car in park and turn off the car as previously described, it does not remove the auto-release of the e-brake if you set it manually and drive off - that feature is still present. The seat belt requirement is still there for the auto release to occur (or you can manually release it). If the e-brake is not set manually, it will not set automatically.

However there is one exception I discovered...
It was asked what happens if you open the door while the car is running and in gear. The answer is that the e-brake will automatically engage with a warning message (at least while my foot was on the floor brake). I had never tried this before the TSB, so I'm assuming it operated the same way prior to the update.

Now I just have to remember to turn the car off when I exit and that the e-brake is not automatically on when I put the car in gear.
Having endured this "feature" for about 4 months and not overcoming the frustration, I've passed along the TSB information to my dealer and am hoping to have it applied to my 2013 Audi A6 3.0T. My wife will be elated if this can be de-activated -- both the auto-e-brake set and the auto shut-off on exiting the car.

Audi of America says that this is a safety feature. Yet, it is not a feature on the 2014 to current versions. If it was a safety feature, why not continue it? This is like deciding not to put seat belts in a car after years of including them as standard feature.

Thanks -- and hoping it all works out!!!

Ugh what an annoying feature to add brake when door opens. Many times in parking facilities i have to back up with door open and it has locked the brakes.

Thankfully mine does not cut the engine but i will experiments as i have auto engine on/off disabled.

I agree - I have been avoiding valet parking because I don't trust them to figure this out.

You can disable this through VAGCOM - at least I did on my 2012 Q5 and on my 2013 S5

[53 - Parking Brake] [Security Access - 16] (Enter Code Presented by program)
[Adaptation - 10] - Driver Out Apply Evaluation of Brake Pedal - set to "not activated"

Neither of mine had the engine shut off when you opened the door though. It does stop the parking brake from being applied when you open the driver's side door, at least.
