This is ridiculous. Ford, Hyundai and others can retrofit. This is a corporate decision so we should complain to corporate.

I'm absolutely sure it could be done, but the cost of both the needed hardware, and then software upgrade, would be excessive, particularly if done by the dealer. My guess would be well over $2k. And then you have to plug that cable into your phone each time you get into the car, and then unplug it when you leave. And our screen isn't even a touchscreen, we have to use the dial to navigate around. Yes, it would be kind of cool to have available, but I'm not quite sure it would be worth it in the end.

I still think the hardware between 2016 and 2017 is the same. I think Audi doesn't want to do the software upgrade.

That is a possibility. I guess all one would have to do is match the part numbers for the head units and associated components on a 16' and then on a 17'. Actually, if someone got around to doing that, it would be great if they could post the results here in one of these threads about Carplay.
I'm not sure why the dealer wouldn't want to do the software update then as they could charge their mucho $ for doing it.. Unless AOA is telling them that they don't want them doing it, as it would provide less of an incentive for Audi fans to buy a new car, which is likely.

As Audi drops or doesn't implement the things I care about in a car, my interest turns to other makes. Other makes offer manual transmissions, others have CarPlay, others have tethered connect systems, others have full electric and hybrid cars. I have been with Audi since 2000, but it time to start looking.

I'm not sure how to read the details though, is it or isn't it possible for an A6 2016?
I read elsewhwere that the product is simply a booklet with three codes that need to be enabled by a dealer.
