Computer programming with OBD
I am sorry if this topic came here multipe times before, but I hope I will get the answer as I cant find it googling..
Does anyone here have experience with computer programming to change some settings? (Probably via OBD || port)
i am looking to find the hardware needed and the software I should use to disable some annoying sounds like (turn of ignition before leaving the car) or 5 beeps every time I turn on the car.
Any advices?
The car is 2017 A6.
No worries...
First, yes you can change some settings for the car, I'd have to check for what you specifically want to do
Second, the term you will see throughout the forums to do this is VAGCOM
Third, where are you located?
You can either:
1) buy the hardware yourself and perform the mods. Extra benefit, you will also be able to perform diagnostics on your car whenever you want, like before you take it in for service appointments
2) find another owner shop near by who already has the equipment to do it for you
What is the equipment?
1) a Windows PC laptop -OR- a Mac/Linux laptop with Windows running in VirtualPC/Parallels
2) Ross Tech Dongle or Cable (any one of the following)
a) Dongle w/Cable - $199 to $299 (depending on how many different car VINs you want to use it on) - https://store.ross-tech.com/shop/vchv2_ent/
b) Wifi Dongle (also allows USB cable to attach Dongle to PC) - $499 - https://store.ross-tech.com/shop/vchn_10/
3) RossTech VCDS Software (free) for use with their cable - Ross-Tech: VCDS: Downloads: Current Release and Manual
Thanks for your reply.
I am located in Europe/Lithuania, but the car is from USA/New York. So it is USA model, it is made in 2017, but docs are 2018 Premium Plus.
I think I will go with buying the equipment, only thing is how to choose the best one to buy? As I dont want to choose from one option, maybe you know any alternatives? Or this one is so good that there is no need to look further?
Also, I want to use this software mostly for my own car, so would be 1 VIN. But, software does not work with all cars?
Do you have any opinion on Obdeven APP for example? As I see, it may be more for playing around than real things to be done.
Thanks again for previous reply!

2) Obdeven: I haven't used it myself, but there are others on this forum and also Audizine who have
3) what to buy:
a)the OBDEleven might accomplish what you need can also be done with the dongle/smart phone app (I hear god things about, but have never used)
b)if you are going with Rosstech, the cheapest option I mentioned would be enough (when I bought mine, there was just 1 option)
There may also be other options as well, these are just the 2 I'm aware of
Only downside is there is not as much support as there is with VCDS.
