Frenchseven, I have the same issue and noticed the exact same "Google" image and the Google maps is still not working here in Los Angeles. But, it sounds like Audi is aware and are working the problem.

Hi Frenchseven, exactly the same problem on mine. It stopped working on Friday and still doesn’t work. A6 4g 2014 MMI Plus with Audi Connect

I began experiencing the same issue Saturday 10/14. Half loaded grey Google, etc. Mine is a 2012 A6. All other services working normally. Hopefully it's back up and running by Friday because I have a 5 hour drive this weekend!

You can just switch to the standard map in the meantime. Navigation will work fine. I actually get a prompt on mine asking me if I want to switch to the standard map for now. Might have to do with the firmware version.

I contacted Audi this afternoon and received the following reply on Google Earth Maps not loading:


"This is a nationwide concern that we are seeing with Google. We are currently working on a fix. Right now we do not have a timeline on when it will be fixed."

Yeah I'm going to have to just use the regular map until Google fixes this. I just like the look of the Google Map overlay much more as most people probably do

As generally cynical guy that works in the IT industry, Audi is getting a lot of things wrong here:
  • In 2017, you don't go down for extended maintenance. If you do you are doing something wrong.
    • Given how long this is actually taking now, I would take a bet this isn't a maintenance. Something broke and now they are trying to figure out how to get it up and running again and the maintenance thing is just the PR spiel.
  • If you really have to go down, you don't do it without notice.
  • When you are down, you have a way of telling the user via the in car interface and providing updates.
This is why I can't wait until they (really) decouple online services from the car (e.g. CarPlay, Android Auto). I'm really skeptical of how long Audi is going to support their online services in the now old MMI 3G+ when they have no way of updating the software on the car side. My gut feeling is they are also a slave to Google with some sort "promise you won't break it" contract.

Good luck to whoever is maintaining/fixing this crap.

Yep same issue here in SoCal. 2012 with ATT Simcard.

Sounds like a sit and wait situation.....
