New memeber here. new question.
hey everyone i am completely new to owning a german car. i have had numerous japanese and american cars in my life but have never had the pleasure of owning german, until now. i just recently purchased a 2016 audi a6 premium plus quattro with the s line package and the black optics package. and herein lies my question. i have the 19 inch 10 spoke wheels and i want to upgrade to the 20 inch ones that are machined and matte grey 5 stars. i have found a few replica wheels and i have decided on Hartmann wheels. they have 2 different options for those wheels one is a 29 offset and the other is a 40. i would like the new wheels to be as close to the fender line as possible without it having to be rolled and pulled. When i read the website it says with the 40 offset i would have to get 5mm spacers and i was wondering if they meant all 4 wheels or just the front 2. i want them to have an even look to them, meaning i want the wheels to "sit" on the car at the same spots relative to the fender on both front and rear. Kind of going for a flush look with no rub at all.i also need to know should i order longer wheel stud nuts also. i was wondering if anyone who has these wheels could help me out to which ones i should order. Also if anyone has or had Hartmann wheels could also chime in and let me know what the build quality and the painting is like i would appreciate that as well. Thank you in advance and i have to say i should have bought german alot sooner this car is phenomenal.

There's two factors in determining how close a wheel will be to the fender. One factor is the width and the other is the offset.
Assuming the the width is the same on both wheels, the smaller number (29) will move the wheel out 11mm more than the larger number (40).
This calculator will allow you to compare wheels of different widths and offsets.

thank you very much tenspeed. i am most certainly going to look in to that and figure it out. DB22 i like the wheels that are on the car also, i just like the 20 inch propeller wheels better. i figure i will use the 19 inch ones in the snow and the 20 inch ones for the other 3 seasons.
