Default oil leak 2.0t

I have a nasty oil leak. Started suddenly. Thought it was the upper timing cover. Replaced the gasket but I noticed the plastic cover doesn't push evenly across the gasket. At first, I could see more of the gasket between the bolts than I thought I should. Over time, it squished down better.

I'm thinking the whole cover should be replaced along with the gasket and seal.

Any thoughts on other likely places to look?

Possibly, another candidate. Could it be from the Engine Oil Cooler gasket? Can't tell how hard this is to fix.

follow that black slimey stuff upwards until you find the source, gravity is your friend.

lol... To get at the oil cooler, filter area I can see I need to at least remove the alternator. Not sure what else will need to get taken off. Very hard to see in this area with the intake right above it. Might try to look from below again.

If you are not able to find your leak and you are willing to spend a little money there are 'UV oil detection kits' on the market that consist of a UV dye and a UV pin-light & glasses.
I haven't tried one of these yet but there are plenty of videos on YouTube, and kits are available at most auto parts stores.

The problem I'm having is seeing around the oil cooler area. The front timing cover gasket is still a suspect but I'm starting to lean towards the oil cooler area. I may try to find a small mirror. Lots of opportunity for leaks with the oil cooler gasket. There are no clear DIY instructions for getting at this gasket. I'm not sure if I need to remove the Intake Manifold to get at this area. I did see one vendor bundle the intake gasket with the oil cooler gasket.

You may want to consider downloading the manual should you deside to pursue doing this. How many miles are on the car?
