Hi guys! I recently bought an A6 for my partner and we have been looking at the features and noticed that there is no features relating to the camera on the front windscreen.
It does not have adaptive cruise control, nor does it have lane keep assist or any of the night vision stuff.
What could it possibly be for?

On our other vehicle it controls an entire host of things from speed sign recognition, to cruise control, and lane departure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since it appears to be from Oceania/Australia, it would greatly depend on your options as cars sold in countries other than US/Canada usually had a more extensive options list available. While this is a C7.1, my .2 has that windshield for the lane assist. You also seem to have HUD, so I would not be surprised if it has lane assist to it. Appears to be a well-optioned car but is without ACC. So, as my previous point, likely possible this was ordered with those items but without ACC as options. In the US, they are commonly bundled as packages.

I'll go have a look, I know the HUD option was an option all on its own here.
Funny thing is, the HUD is actually blurry.

I was driving it home last night and I remembered reading somewhere that people were retrofitting these cars with HUDS but they weren't replacing the windscreens and as such the information displayed on the windscreen was looking slightly blurry - that's what's happening on this one.
Then I noticed the little box inside the car where the top windscreen camera is, is actually lose and held on with some tape.

So my thoughts are - windscreen was cracked and dealer had to put a new one in for a RWC (road worthy certificate is a legal requirement here in AUS before you sell a registered car) didn't know they needed a special kind and that's why the HUD is blurry, and said camera bits inside are taped back up.

OR someone has already tried to retrofit the HUD and cameras to add some of the extra bits the original buyer wasn't willing to shell out for.

If the camera was disconnected when new windscreen was put in (definitely has had a new one put in because there's no AUDI symbol on it like the side windows have) would it throw an error code if it wasn't reconnected? I was thinking about just covering it up and going for a drive to see if it says anything.
It does have rain sensor, but it's just a little tiny circle dot on the windscreen. I found that out when I touched it and the wipers tried to attack me. 😂

Is the camera on the windshield itself? Sometimes there’s a camera on the bottom back of the rear view mirror for headlight assistant (high beam assist)

 

As you can see there is the rain sensor which is the circle one. Then the light sensor on the back of the mirror and then this camera.


I have taken the cover off and it turns out there's actually nothing in there!

 

Can’t tell from the picture but do you see the camera actually in there? I ran into one a few months ago that looked like it had one but it was empty and didn’t realize it till after we set up all the stuff to calibrate it and couldn’t find the module with the scanner haha.

 

That was exactly the case! I think they replaced with an aftermarket screen thinking it had the camera's and we're too lazy to go back and find the correct one when they realised the mistake.

This works for me though... I guess it's one less step if I want to add the cameras later!

I've never seen it in my other vehicles, and the 1 cord that did ever come off was for the ABS and when disconnected it chucked up warning lights for abs and traction control.
The Audi isn't throwing any fault messages, so I assume it can't be that bad.
I purchased this car a week ago and am already regretting it lol
