Winter Wheels? Will 17" original Allroad or 17 " A4 B8 wheels fit?
I am looking for17 inch wheels for winter assuming they perform slightly better In the snow and cheaper for the rubber. I have 19 inch wheel package on my 2014 A6 TDI currently. Will the B8 A4 wheels or original Allroad wheels fit? Any downside here?

Use this website for specs of the cars you are looking at to fit. You will find bolt pattern, center bore, and offset.
https://www.wheel-size.com/
Then you can go to discount direct for tires and/or wheels. 17" is an option that can fit.

Will 235/45/17 fit?
I went on that site and it lists a 225-55-17 as stock in the EU. The bolt pattern is the same as well as other items for fit. Will 235 versus 225 (Stock) make any difference in safety or handling? Will 45 be okay versus the stock 55? Its so close.

Stock sizes usually are dictated to keep speedometer accuracy by keeping the diameter the same. For winter, Im into function and not looks. Some like 20" with wide winter tires. Up to the owner. For wheels, you can check into Ebay. I got a whole set of 4 new wheels for $400 including shipping that look like the photo. They were replica A7 wheel. The reason you want to go to 17" is not only lower cost but also a bit of a smaller footprint during snow and slush. There is an article at Tirerack.com about this. The wider the tire, you are plowing thru snow and slush vs slicing thru it, if that makes sense. Winter tires are very specific, and they don't handle like your all season or summer tire. You can do some research on that. The tire calculator helps with speedometer error.
